Circle of Time
I called the first evening of “The Still Stage” “The Circle of Time: Alone with Yourself”.
I didn’t want to start our club with something lighthearted. It’s not that the music has to be heavy or overly serious. It was just important that the very first evening immediately showed why we started all this in the first place.
We’re not here for entertainment, not for music to be mere background noise, and not to show off anyone’s erudition. The goal was different: to help a person navigate a certain state of mind.
“The Circle of Time” is a collection of eight songs that speak of things that are usually not so easy to put into words: finitude, silence, inner numbness, fear, a cry, exhaustion, and how to start breathing again and return to life.
And here, it’s not just the choice of songs that matters, but also the order in which they’re played.

Starless — финальная вещь альбома Red и одна из вершин King Crimson периода 1970-х.
Сначала это почти баллада: голос Джона Уэттона, меланхоличная тема, ощущение вечернего неба без звезд. Но постепенно музыка меняет природу. Напряжение нарастает почти незаметно: бас, ударные, гитара Роберта Фриппа — всё собирается в тугой нервный узел, пока композиция не выходит к мощной развязке.
Интересно, что изначально Уэттон писал эту вещь для предыдущего альбома "Starless and Bible Black", но тогда группа её не приняла. Позже материал доработали, расширили, изменили — и в итоге именно Starless стала финальной точкой альбома Red.
Для меня это музыка о внутреннем противоречии: когда снаружи всё спокойно, а внутри уже идёт гроза.
